US itinerary – travel plans?

Angel T asked:

I am planning to travel to US in August next year since that’s when most school term starts and it will be less crowded.
Planning to visit 4 states – WI (Milwaukee), GA (Atlanta), TX (Houston) & CA (Los Angeles).
Will be flying in from Asia and am wondering which is the best route to take.
Is Asia -> TX -> CA -> WI -> GA -> TX -> Asia advisable? Or there are some better routes?

As I am planning to spend 1.5 weeks (10 days) in each state with the exception of GA where I will be staying 2 weeks or more, should I buy one way tickets or 2 round trip tickets from Asia to US and back?
Seems like 2 round trip tickets is cheaper than buying 2 one way tickets.
How about traveling interstate? Is it cheaper to buy one way or round trip tickets?
Which are the cheapest US domestic discount airlines? I went to AA and the cheapest tickets were sold out (8 months in advance!)
Frontier airlines seems to be the cheapest now followed by Midwest Airlines.

Last of all, is it better to travel on land instead for interstate? But this doesn’t seem like an option since there are no train services or etc.

As this is my first time traveling to the states, I will really appreciate any help and advice given :)
